19-year-old woman charged in fentanyl death appears in court
WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – A 19-year-old woman arrested on charges related to fentanyl distribution that resulted in a death appeared in court Wednesday, Jan. 14.
Leah Blankenship was arrested on Tuesday, Jan. 13, by the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office. She was charged with death by distribution, selling and delivering fentanyl, and possession with intent to sell and deliver fentanyl, according to an arrest warrant.
The arrest warrant alleges Blankenship delivered fentanyl to the victim on Saturday, Jan. 10, which led to his death.
The assistant district attorney said in court that Blankenship was with the victim when he died, but did not call 911 for about an hour.
Blankenship received a $250,000 bond during her court appearance and requested a court-appointed attorney.
Her next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 29 at 9 a.m
