Two men face charges after reports of gunfire at a Chattanooga apartment Friday night led to police to find multiple guns hidden in a washing machine.

An affidavit we obtained says two callers reported active gunfire on Gillespie Road just before 9pm Friday night. Chattanooga police officers were sent a video from one of the callers, who caught the gunfire on video.

The affidavit says offices went to the location of the video, 302 Gillespie Road, and found multiple pistol shell casings on the porch of one of the apartments.

A man there, later identified as Anthony Sutton, yelled at officers to leave, according to the affidavit. Officers asked him and any others inside the apartment to come out. Sutton resisted before coming out with a woman, who later identified herself as Sutton’s girlfriend. When they came out, Sutton told officers that his brother was inside, but did not give up his identity.

According to the affidavit, officers again asked for anyone inside the apartment to come out, and eventually the second man, Gary McGlocton, came out and was detained.

After getting a search warrant, officers went in the apartment and found the following inside:

  • two different 9 mm semi-automatic pistols in a washing machine, one with its serial number scratched off
  • 20 grams of what appeared to be marijuana on a tv stand
  • loose rounds of 9mm bullets in a bedroom
  • a holster with a loaded magazine matching one of the guns found
  • a magazine matching the other gun
  • multiple digital scales
  • Shell casings at the front door that matched the casing found on the porch

The affidavit says Sutton’s girlfriend told officers it was his apartment that he shared with his brother, and that she was only visiting. She told officers which room belonged to each man.

When officers talked to Sutton, he denied shooting on that night, saying instead that he had been involved in a shooting on New year’s night. He also claimed ownership of the marijuana found, telling officers he “smokes all day every day”.

According to the affidavit, Sutton told officers that both guns were his, but later walked back on his statement, claiming that he was trying to protect his brother from charges.

Officers then turned to McGlocton, who refused to answer questions. He eventually told officers that he was a felon, convicted of a theft charge. Officers then took him and Sutton in to custody.

Online public arrest records show that Sutton, booked as Anthony Reed, faces the following charges:

  • reckless endangerment
  • possessing a firearm with intent to go armed
  • possession of controlled substance
  • possession of drug paraphernalia.
