5-year-old boy who prompted IAN Alert in Kentucky found dead

An IAN Alert was issued in Kentucky on Tuesday for a missing 5-year-old boy, and now troopers say he has been found dead.

The boy, Silas, walked away from his home in Cub Run, Kentucky around 8 a.m., according to Kentucky State Police. Cub Run is in Hart County, near Mammoth Cave.

Because Silas has autism, the specific IAN Alert was issued around 9:30 a.m.

Around 10:15 a.m., KSP said he had been found dead.

“KSP grieves with this family and the community,” troopers said in a release.

Tuesday actually marks the one year anniversary of IAN Alert system’s start date in Kentucky. It uses the same system as the Amber Alert.

It was named for Ian Sousis, a 9-year-old boy with autism who ran away from the Children’s Home of Northern Kentucky and drowned in the Ohio River in 2022.

No further details were immediately available. This story may be updated.
