CHICAGO — A man with autism, who went missing after his father’s death, has been found alive.
His father was a longtime Chicago police officer who was battling Parkinson’s disease.
Jonathon “Jon” Baez, 43, has autism and began taking care of his father, David Baez, after the 73-year-old was diagnosed with the progressive disease.
Jon’s family members confirmed on Saturday night that he had been found alive and thanked those who helped in the search.
“(His brothers) were very happy how he was taking care of David,” aunt Paty Galindo told WGN News.
The family lost their mother, Josefina, 25 years ago and David took care of Jon over the years until his Parkinson’s diagnosis.
David was found dead by one of his other sons on Friday. Family feared Jon found his body, potentially “freaked out” and left the home near 86th and Baltimore without his cell phone.
“We don’t know what happened but there was no foul play. My brother-in-law died in his sleep,” Galindo said.
Family had been frantically putting up flyers in an effort to find him. During the search, they were told by an Elote stand near 91st and Houston that they saw him last Thursday — the day before David was found dead.
Neighbors told the family they last saw a light at the home on the night of Tuesday, April 2.
The latest update came in a Facebook post by a family member on Saturday night.
