LONOKE COUNTY, Ark. (WKRC) – A father accused of killing his 14-year-old daughter’s alleged rapist announced he is running for sheriff because the “system failed.”

Aaron Spencer, 37, announced his campaign for Lonoke County Sheriff on a Facebook post last Friday, almost a year after he allegedly murdered his daughter’s rapist.

The video began with him saying:

Hello Lonoke, my name is Aaron Spencer. Many of you know my story. I’m the father who acted to protect his daughter when the system failed.

Spencer said he is a military veteran and farmer who the criminal justice system has failed. He continued on saying:

I refuse to stand by while others face these same failures This campaign isn’t about me. It’s about every parent, every neighbor, every family who deserves to feel safe in their homes and safe in their community. It’s about restoring trust where neighbors know law enforcement is on their side and families know that they will not be left alone in a moment of need.

Spencer was arrested in October 2024 after he allegedly killed Michael Fosler, 67, in Lonoke County.

The day of the incident, Spencer reported to the police that his daughter was missing. As police were on their way to Spencer’s home, Spencer found his daughter in a vehicle with Fosler. Fosler had a no-contact order because he had stalked and raped the 14-year-old.

Spencer then allegedly shot and killed Fosler after a confrontation between the two men arose. The child’s mother had thought Fosler might be trying to kill her daughter because he was wanted for a possible six to nine felonies and her daughter was the only witness.

Sheriff John Staley noted that Spencer’s case would be up to the Lonoke County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office to decide whether or not to actually file charges against Spencer, according to Law & Crime.

Spencer is out on bond as his case remains ongoing.
