Rap executive Big U’s son shot dead in Los Angeles
34-year-old Jabari Henley was shot and killed in Los Angeles on October 31st. The man is the son of Eugene ‘Big U’ Henley, an alleged Crips leader and rap executive, who is the former manager of Nipsey Hussle.
A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department said the shooting took place at around 11pm at Figueroa and 69th streets in the Vermont-Slauson neighbourhood.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Jabari (also known as Baby Uiie) was shot after walking up to a car, with the suspects then fleeing the scene. When firefighters arrived, he was pronounced dead.
Jabari’s brother, Daiyan Henley, a Los Angeles Chargers linebacker, paid tribute to following a win over the Tennessee Titans on November 2nd.
“I just wanted to talk to my brother one more time,” he said. “It was an emotional moment for me, just to be able to make a play on a day like this – just losing him so soon. It’s been a long year for me, so I just sent a prayer up and hopefully he heard it. I just went out there.”
In March, Big U was accused of murder, kidnapping, robbery, extortion, and fraud. He allegedly ran a “mafia-like organisation” and was charged with conspiracy to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organisations (RICO) Act.
He was initially announced as a fugitive but turned himself in later that day, joining dozens of others in custody.
Shortly before surrendering himself, he claimed he was innocent. “I ain’t did nothing,” he said. “I ain’t been nothing but a help to our community.”
He continued, “This the price of being Black and trying to help somebody, trying to help your community and do what you can. You just guilty because somebody else don’t like you.”
