Missing 7-year-old North Carolina boy found dead after search, officials confirm

The body of a missing, nonverbal 7-year-old boy from North Carolina has been found, authorities confirmed Tuesday.

Liam King, who had been last seen in the Forest Hills Drive area of Asheboro on Sunday, was found deceased in a pond, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office announced via Facebook on Tuesday, Sept. 9. The sheriff’s office said his body was found near the area where he was reported missing.

“We are absolutely devastated. I wish more than anything that we had a different outcome—for Liam’s family, for our community, and for the hundreds of first responders and volunteers who poured their hearts into finding him alive,” the sheriff’s office wrote.

On Monday, the sheriff’s office said local, state and federal resources were used to search for King on the ground and in the air.
