Christina Aguilera is taking her penchant for a good throwback to new heights after posting a pair of videos that quite literally look straight out of 1999. The singer, who rose to pop music superstardom thanks to hits like “What a Girl Wants,” is the new covergirl of Carcy Magazine. She wore a white baby tee in one video paired with black leggings layered under white underwear.

In a second video, Aguilera switches between half a dozen Y2K-style outfits, including a sheer polka-dot dress, a white dress shirt and tie, and a shirt-leggings combo complete with a slouchy statement belt. She captioned the videos “work & play 💋” and “lemme serve @carcymagazine,” respectively.

“The way I can see your different eras in this! Queen! Icon! Legend! 😍” one fan commented, while another gushed, “Mama proving she doesn’t need photoshop ❤️‍🔥.”

Aguilera’s most recent English-language album, Liberation, was released back in 2018 (Aguilera came out in Spanish in 2022). Thus, many fans were quick to wonder whether the Carcy photoshoot was a hint that a new album, and with it, a new era, is coming for Xtina. Last year marked the 25th anniversary of her self-titled debut album.

“I think the biggest word that sums up that first record for me is grateful,” she told Glamour. “Being thankful because it got my foot in the door. After 25 years I’m so proud of it. I think to sustain anything for a lengthy amount of time takes a lot of work and dedication and passion. There are many elements that go into being able to build something.”

To coincide with the album’s 25th anniversary, Aguilera teamed up with Spotify to release a special edition of Christina Aguilera, complete with surprise cameos from the likes of Machine Gun Kelly and Sabrina Carpenter.

“I wanted to celebrate the 25th anniversary of my debut album in a way that brings together the past and present,” she told Rolling Stone. “I’ve always enjoyed reimagining my songs with different styles and audiences, as well as playing with sounds and arrangements that showcase how all music can be timeless.”
