He famously hails from Honolulu, but where does Bruno Mars live now that he is a certified pop icon with 16 Grammy awards under his belt? His showbiz career began in the Aloha State when he was just a toddler impersonating Elvis with his family band, the Love Notes. “I don’t remember much,” Mars said of the gig in a 2013 GQ interview. “I probably couldn’t even speak that much. But I was fucking great at it.” Born Peter Hernandez, the lifelong performer garnered his nickname as a child for his likeness to wrestler Bruno Sammartino (“Mars” came later, when he was in need of a stage name for his recording career). When he was 12, his parents split, and that was the end of the family’s musical act and the financial stability that came with it. For a time, Mars lived with his brother and father in a small one-room structure in an abandoned bird zoo—a far cry from the glitzy properties that the musician would go on to own in adulthood.
