GULFPORT, Miss. (WKRC) — A woman was taken into custody after authorities allegedly discovered a “Glock switch.”
According to the Gulfport Police Department, 20-year-old Destanie Joelle Francois was arrested on Sunday after law enforcement found a “Glock switch” inside her vehicle.
Authorities said officers executed a traffic stop at around 3:03 a.m. on Sunday after spotting a vehicle traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of a roadway in Gulfport, Mississippi. While approaching the vehicle, police said they detected the smell of marijuana and asked Francois to step outside.
During a search of the vehicle, police said they found marijuana as well as a firearm that was “equipped with a machine gun conversion device.”
Francois was arrested and taken to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center. She was charged with the following, according to police:
- Possession of a machine gun conversion device
She was given a $50,000 bond.
“Interesting fact: A ‘Glock switch’ can make a handgun fire up to 1,200 rounds per minute, faster than many fully automatic rifles. This device, smaller than a quarter, can instantly convert a handgun into an uncontrollable machine gun, drastically reducing accuracy and greatly increasing the danger to everyone nearby,” the statement said.
