Julia Roberts likes to change things up.
The actress, 58, appears on the cover of The Hollywood Reporter‘s Beauty Issue alongside her hairstylist of 33 years, Serge Normant. In the interview, published on Wednesday, Nov. 19, Julia joked about their relationship, including her desire to make drastic hair changes.
“Sometimes I do suggest things, and he just looks at me. Gently. With his eyes saying, ‘No,'” the Pretty Woman actress told the outlet. “It usually involves me wanting to cut all my hair off!”
Despite her whims, Julia says that she usually lets Normant do his thing. “I trust Serge so completely that sometimes we don’t even talk about the look,” she shared.

The pair also opened up about their strong bond.
“Serge is so gifted and can do absolutely anything with hair, so, lucky for me, there is no need to go elsewhere for anything,” Julia said. “At this point, we are more of a family than co-workers.”
Of meeting Julia on a Herb Ritts shoot in 1993, Normant added: “Our connection was instant. Over the years, that bond has only deepened into the most amazing friendship. There’s a lot of trust between us, which makes creativity easy and fun.”
Julia’s beauty squad pulled back the curtain on one of the star’s buzziest looks of late — her fiery red hair at the Venice Film Festival premiere of After the Hunt in August 2025.
“The world hadn’t seen her in a bit, so we definitely amped up her color for that carpet,” said hair colorist Kadi Lee, who mixed darker auburn and vibrant copper with tipped-out ends, “so they could get movement.”
The colorist continued, “Her hair was blowing, and she looked so elegant in the navy dress with the red hair — she knocked it out of the park.”

Her makeup artist, Genevieve Herr, “gave her a bit more glam [than usual]. Her eyes were defined, the lip color was perfect for the gown’s color, and I gave her extra blush.”

In September, Julia and niece Emma Roberts sported matching hair colors while posing together on the red carpet at the Veuve Cliquot x Simon Porte Jacquemus party in New York City. The relatives rocked the same red hue, with Julia’s locks styled into loose waves and Emma’s pulled back into a low, tousled ponytail.
The Scream Queens star, who’s the daughter of Julia’s brother Eric Roberts, coordinated with her aunt in a chic black look at the New York Fashion Week event, which marked their first red carpet appearance together in 13 years.
In February, the American Horror Story alum debuted her “sunrise red” hair styled in beachy waves with a dramatic side part on Instagram. The actress had blonde hair prior to going red, notably changing her hairstyle in December 2020.
