Julia Roberts is in awe of her three kids, Phinnaeus, Hazel and Henry.
“It’s amazing. It’s astonishing,” the After the Hunt actress, 58, told Entertainment Tonight on Monday, December 1, of her twins Phinnaeus and Hazel’s recent milestone 21st birthday and what it’s been like watching them grow up while attending the Gotham Awards 2025.
“I mean, watching any child, but particularly your own children grow up and just … listening to their point of view of the world and things,” she added with a smile on her face.
Director Luca Guadagnino, who joined Roberts for the red carpet interview, revealed that the kids all gave their opinions on After the Hunt. Guadagnino, 54, said that hearing the trio’s thoughts on the movie was “amazing.” Roberts said that the filmmaker “spends time” with her kids and understands how special it is to see them grow.
After the Hunt follows college professor Alma Imhoff (Roberts), who finds herself at a moral crossroads when a student, Margaret “Maggie” Resnick (Ayo Edebiri), accuses one of her colleagues, Henrik “Hank” Gibson (Andrew Garfield), of sexual assault. The incident causes Alma to confront her own dark past, putting her career and friendships on the line in the process. The film also stars Michael Stuhlbarg, Chloë Sevigny, Thaddea Graham, David Leiber, Lío Mehiel and Will Price.
Guadagnino and Roberts were both honored on Monday night with the Visionary Tribute for After the Hunt.
“Oh, to be together, it’s the most special because really, I mean, I don’t do anything by myself. There’s nothing that is a singular endeavor at home or out of home,” Roberts told Extra on Monday. “And so to stand with Luca with this tonight is a joy.”
The award was presented by Roberts’ longtime friend Paul Rudd. While on stage to accept the achievement, Roberts joked she was trying to cut her speech short so she could go use the bathroom.
“I didn’t realize how long this was gonna go on and I didn’t regulate my water intake,” the Pretty Woman actress said. “Paul, thank you for those kind words. Everyone that is here living their creative dreams, thank you for doing that in a world that seems to be crumbling. This is the tape and the glue that keeps it together. One of my great dreams was to work with Luca Guadagnino, and now that I’ve done it once I just wanna keep on doing it.”
The appearance came three days after Roberts shared a rare throwback photo of her son and daughter via Instagram on their special day. “These game changers, life alterers, ❤️expanders once were 1 and now are 21! That was fast 😭 Happy Birthday my Dears 🎉💥⚡🎁,” the caption of her Friday, November 28, post read.
In the picture, baby Phinnaeus and Hazel sat in high chairs side by side as they munched on cake. Pink and blue gift bags could be seen in the background to mark the occasion.
This holiday season, Roberts is looking forward to spending time with her kids and husband Danny Moder, telling Extra she is planning “just to be with my family, my friends.”
