LOS ANGELES (WKRC) – A California couple was charged with the murder, torture, and assault of their 14-month-old daughter, Tilly S. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced the charges, revealing a harrowing case of ongoing abuse that led to the child’s death.
On Nov. 7, Tilly was admitted to Miller Children’s Hospital in Long Beach with severe trauma and was placed on life support. She tragically died three days later. An investigation by the Long Beach Police Department determined that the abuse was inflicted by her father, Alfredo Muñoz Jr., 40, and stepmother, Kelly Anelalani Muñoz, 34.
The couple was arrested on Nov. 24 and are being held on a $3 million bond each. They face a maximum sentence of 32 years to life in state prison if convicted. An arraignment hearing is scheduled for Dec. 16.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman emphasized the gravity of the case, stating in a media release, “The tragic death of this little girl is a heartbreaking reminder of the sacred responsibility we all share to protect our children from harm. Our Office is committed to seeking justice for Tilly and ensuring those responsible are held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”
