Bruno Mars‘ mother Bernadette was a singer and a dancer, while his father Peter Hernandez played percussion. Mars was one of six children and all of them were talented musically. His uncle was an Elvis impersonator, who encouraged the 24K Magic singer to perform on stage as Elvis Presley. Mars joined his family on stage performances five days a week at just 4-years-old and his bit was the Elvis impersonation.

In 1990, Hawaiian tabloid shopper MidWeek made little Mars the cover of their magazine after he impressed the audience during the 1990 Aloha Bowl. It brought him more exposure and may have eventually landed him a cameo role in James Caan and Nicolas Cage‘s 1992 film Honeymoon in Vegas. A clip of Mars from the film recently resurfaced and went viral on Instagram.

The cute Elvis impersonation from Mars also included a rendition of Presley’s 1961 classic Can’t Help Falling in Love. Fans in the comment section mentioned how the singer looked cute in his hair and the outfit. Others also mentioned that Mars was born with talent. Some of the fan reactions read:

Elvis Presley had a huge impact on Bruno Mars’ career. He once revealed to 4Music that he was a big fan of Elvis, especially from the 1950s. He called him a force, who could go on stage and scare people. Mars shared that he was also a fan of Prince and The Police and added that he loved studying from these musicians. Mars told 4Music (via Bayside Radio):

I watch the best. I’m a big fan of Elvis. I’m a big fan of 1950s Elvis when he would go on stage and scare people because he was a force and girls would go nuts! You can say the same thing for Prince or The Police. It’s just guys who know that people are here to see a show, so I watch those guys and I love studying them because I’m a fan.

He also credited his family’s musical roots for his success. He shared that he was surrounded by people in his family, who knew how to sing and play instruments. He shared (via Bruno Mars/YouTube):

Growing up in Hawaii made me the man I am. I used to do a lot of shows in Hawaii with my father’s band. Everybody in my family sings, everyone plays instruments … I’ve just been surrounded by it.

Mars was discovered by Mike Lynn, the head of A&R at Aftermath Entertainment, when Mars’ sister in LA played his demo for Lynn. He then summoned Mars to Los Angeles which changed the Treasure singer’s fate forever.
