DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — An investigation into a stolen vehicle led to a drug arrest at Southpoint Mall over the weekend, deputies said.
According to the Durham County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were notified on Saturday, Jan. 3, that an Acura TSX reported stolen in Chapel Hill had entered the parking lot of Southpoint Mall on Fayetteville Road.
When deputies found the vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office, it was parked and unoccupied. Narcotics and drug paraphernalia could be seen inside the car.
A search of the vehicle uncovered 100 grams of cocaine, fentanyl, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia, as well as a large sum of cash, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies said they identified the driver of the stolen vehicle as 25-year-old Jacquarius Isaiah King of Durham after viewing surveillance video of him exiting the Acura TSX in the parking lot. He was the vehicle’s sole occupant.
According to the sheriff’s office, King was located inside a store in the mall and arrested without further incident.
King is charged with trafficking in cocaine, possession with intent manufacture/sell/deliver cocaine, maintaining a place for a controlled substance, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the sheriff’s office.
Records show King made his first appearance in Durham County Court on Monday and was given a $100,000 secured bond. His next appearance is scheduled for Jan. 26.
