Dept. of Corrections employee fired, 2 others suspended after Morgan Geyser group home escape
MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – A Department of Corrections employee was fired and two others were on an unpaid suspension following the agency’s response to Morgan Geyser’s escape from a Madison group home, officials confirmed Tuesday.
The agency explained in December that three employees were placed on administrative leave while the DOC conducted an internal investigation.
DOC spokesperson Beth Hardtke said Tuesday that one of those employees was terminated from the department.
A second employee served a five-day unpaid suspension, and the other served a three-day unpaid suspension. Both of those DOC employees have since returned to work.
Geyser is known for stabbing a 12-year-old classmate to appease the fictional character Slender Man.
In November, officials said Geyser cut off her GPS monitor and fled the state with a 43-year-old companion. Police arrested both of them the next day at a truck stop outside Chicago.

Madison Police Department said it took nearly 12 hours before their department was notified that Geyser was missing. They found out because the group home called 911.
Members of the Legislative Audit Committee pressed DOC in late November for answers on the breakdown in communication.
The Wisconsin Department of Corrections sent a response to lawmakers, outlining how it is changing procedures, including immediately notifying local law enforcement when an ankle monitor is tampered with.
Geyser has since been ordered to return to a state psychiatric hospital.
