A 17-year-old boy with autism was physically and sexually assaulted while in the care of a residential treatment provider in Birmingham, according to a newly filed lawsuit.
The lawsuit was filed Thursday by Birmingham attorneys Tommy James of Tommy James Law and Jeremy Knowles of Morris Haynes on behalf the teen’s mother against Glenwood Inc., which operates programs for children with autism and other developmental and behavioral disabilities.
The lawsuit alleges the facility failed to protect a child with autism from severe physical and sexual abuse while in its care and then failed to comply with mandatory reporting and safety obligations required under Alabama law.
