MUNCIE, Ind. — A Muncie man was arrested on Thursday after his child went missing and he allegedly did not go looking for her.
Bobby Franklin Brown Jr., 42, was charged with felony neglect of a dependent.
Officers were dispatched on Thursday at approximately 9:56 a.m. on a report that a 6-year-old, who was not wearing any clothing, was running east on 13th Street with no adults present.
Upon arrival at the scene, it was learned that the child was autistic and nonverbal. Authorities from the Muncie Police Department asked if a social worker would stay with the child while officers attempted to learn where she was from.
At approximately 11:17 a.m., dispatch received a call reporting a child missing from the mom.
According to court documents, the suspect was supposed to be watching the child when he learned she was missing at approximately 10:45 a.m. by a family member.
The affidavit of probable cause alleges that when Brown noticed she was missing, he did not call the police, did not look for the child and did not let anyone know she was missing for approximately 30 minutes.
This is reportedly the second documented case of one of Brown’s children leaving the house and walking down the road unsupervised.
This is an active investigation. Information will be updated as it becomes available.
