WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — Southern Grit Advocacy of Wichita Falls is hosting a free public safety discussion focused on the response when a child with autism goes missing.

The training will take place on Thursday, March 12, at 12:30 p.m. at The Corner, located at 1301 10th St., in Wichita Falls.

The event is designed for public safety personnel, child welfare professionals and community members.

The discussion will highlight how the priorities for response differ when a child with autism is reported missing. It will also emphasize the urgent need to assess and prioritize nearby water sources during the search, given the increased risk of drowning.

The event will also introduce a 12-minute microlearning course titled “Search Water First: Autism and Drowning.” Attendees will learn about emerging data and risk trends related to missing children with autism.

The safety discussion is open to the public and is free to attend.
