Julia Roberts is no stranger to the Academy Awards, but tonight, she missed out on the festivities.

The actor, who took home the Oscar for Best Actress back in 2001 (for her performance in Erin Brockovich), was not up for any awards at tonight’s ceremony—making her absence fairly self-explanatory.

Earlier this year, Roberts’s role in Luca Guadagnino’s 2025 psychological thriller, After the Hunt, earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama. However, the recognition was her only nod this awards season, and she has sat the subsequent events out.

The last time that the Pretty Woman attended the Oscars was back in 2019, when she made a surprise appearance to present the highly-coveted award for Best Picture. She skipped the red carpet for the evening, debuting her bright pink Elie Saab gown on stage instead. Green Book ended up taking home the award, beating out Black PantherBlackkklansmanBohemian RhapsodyThe FavouriteRomaA Star Is Born, and Vice.

In addition to her 2001 win, Roberts has been nominated three times: first in 1990 for Best Supporting Actress (Steel Magnolias), then the following year for Best Actress (Pretty Woman), and most recently in 2014 for Best Supporting Actress once more (August: Osage County).

The Oscars veteran also attended Hollywood’s biggest night of the year in 2004 to introduce a tribute to Katharine Hepburn, and again in 2005 to present the Best Director award to Clint Eastwood for Million Dollar Baby.
