Julia Roberts is still feeling the sting after her most recent movie After The Hunt flopped at the box office, but she’s determined to bounce back by returning to her rom-com roots.
“Julia and her team have done a lot of soul searching,” a source tells the National Enquirer, “and they’ve come to the conclusion that Julia needs to get back into her romantic comedy comfort zone as soon as possible.”
It’s a tried-and-true recipe for success for the Oscar-winning actress, 58.
In 2022, she reunited with Ocean’s Eleven costar George Clooney in Ticket to Paradise, which made over $100 million at the global box office, per Deadline.
“That was a movie where Julia and George leveraged their comfort and ease with one another to make an OK script into something really special and a genuine hit,” says the source. “Now, Julia is ready to do that same thing with her old pal, Richard Gere.”
Gere, 76, is all for a rom-com reunion.
“He’d kill to make one more film with Julia, but the problem is a lack of material,” Enquirer’s source reveals. “They’ve been pitched on re-teaming many times in the years since Runaway Bride and they absolutely don’t want to make a Pretty Woman sequel.”
Finding a script that “both of them like” might be “easier said than done” though, notes the source.
“These are two incredibly picky people,” the source admits. “Recapturing the old magic will require some exceptional, heartfelt writing and marketing, and neither of them are getting any younger!”
