‘Absolutely breaks my heart’: 3-year-old boy dies after being beaten to death by mom’s boyfriend, police say
AMARILLO, Texas. (KFDA/Gray News) – A 3-year-old boy in Texas died after being beaten by his mom’s boyfriend, according to authorities.
In an emotional post, Dahrian Zamora, wrote that his son, Dawson, died Sunday at 10:42 a.m.

Dawson’s mother, Chelsea Berg, has been taken into custody and charged with capital murder of a person under 10 years of age, CBS News reported.
Berg is accused of leaving Dawson with Christopher Alexander when he was brutally beaten on Oct 14.

The arrest warrant for Berg says Alexander brought Dawson to Medical City McKinney and told hospital staff he heard a “thud” and found him with serious injuries.
Hospital staff notified police when they suspected that his injuries were inconsistent with a single fall. Dawson’s injuries include severe brain trauma and bruising in various states of healing over his entire body and more.
When Berg saw photos of his injuries, she was adamant he did not have those injuries when she left for work and left him in Alexander’s care.
According to police, a search of Berg and Alexander’s cellphones show numerous messages between her and Alexander discussing Dawson’s injuries over a month prior to Oct. 14.

Police said Berg sent the following message on Sept. 9: “He clearly hit his head when he fell. He has a bruise on his eyebrow and his whole jawline/cheek is bruised. You’re reckless. He has progressively been getting more and more hurt with you!!! Leave me alone!!! I’m not blind. You’re DANGEROUS.”
According to police, another message sent Sept. 18 reads: “100000% serious. You bruise him, hurt him, and cause damage every single time you are alone with him. There hasn’t been a single time you’ve been alone with him where he hasn’t been hurt.”
In the messages, Berg also allegedly told Alexander that she overlooked bruising on the child’s genitals “knowing it could have happened at school” and that the child had been staying home to recover from injuries.
Alexander was previously arrested the day the toddler was beaten. His charges have now been upgraded to capital murder.
The father said a six-page arrest affidavit is expected to be released, adding that “what will come out absolutely breaks my heart all over again.”
He thanked friends, family, McKinney police, the district attorney’s office, judges, his attorney and medical staff “for helping find justice for my son” and for allowing him to hold Dawson as he took his final breath.
