Sutton, Mass. (Gray News) – The search for a missing 4-year-old Massachusetts girl with autism ended after her body was discovered in a neighbor’s pool.

Sutton police said they received a 911 call reporting that a 4-year-old girl named Eva went missing from her home on Thursday, according to a Facebook post.

On Friday, the department posted that there was a heavy police and fire presence as they searched for the little girl.

“If you see her, please call 911 to alert us,” authorities wrote in a post.

Shortly after that announcement, police said they were no longer asking for the public’s help to find Eva and thanked the community.

Authorities said Eva was found in a neighbor’s pool, unresponsive. First responders took her to a hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

Police said the last 12 hours were “difficult” for first responders and families.

“There are no words that we can offer to help ease the heartache our residents are feeling. We are so incredibly sorry,” police said.

Police also said that they would not make further statements about the case to the press out of respect for the girl’s family.
