How To Make Grilled Salmon
When it comes to cooking salmon, grilling it is one of my favorite methods of preparing it. It’s so quick and easy, but make sure you follow my simple steps for a hassle free experience.
- Heat grill to a high heat (about 400 degrees F.), brush down grates and rub with oil if needed to prevent sticking.
- Coat salmon with olive oil and season with Greek seasoning.
- Place salmon skin-side down on hot grill and flip after about 5 to 6 minutes, then cook until internal temperature reaches 140 degrees F.

Do I Leave Skin on Salmon When Cooking?
YES! Especially when you’re grilling your salmon, it acts like a little buffer between the delicate fish and the hot grill.
Always start your salmon SKIN-SIDE DOWN on the grill. The skin will protect the salmon from sticking to the grill and makes it easier to keep the filet intact.
When your salmon is done cooking, you can serve it with the skin-side down and the fish will easily flake away from the skin.
PRO TIP: Use a handy Fish Turner/Spatula to get under the fish. It’s nice and thin and easy to use.

How To Know When Salmon Is Cooked?
The easiest method for testing if salmon is cooked all the way through is to use a digital meat thermometer. I can’t recommend one of these handy kitchen tools enough. I use it almost daily!
The internal temperature of salmon should be 140 degrees F. when fully cooked.
If you don’t have a thermometer, try gently pulling at the salmon with a fork. If it falls apart easily and in flakes, it is done.
Use caution to not over-cook the salmon, as it can turn tough and rubbery.
Homemade Greek Seasoning
When I have it on hand, I’ll use this delish Greek Seasoning Blend. Otherwise, here is a simple variation that you can make at home. This mix makes 1/2 cup of seasoning, so it’s great to mix up and have on hand.
- 3 tbsp dried oregano
- 2 tbsp dried basil
- 2 tbsp onion powder
- 2 tbsp garlic powder
- 1 tbsp dried dill
- 1 tbsp black pepper
- 1/2 tbsp salt

What To Serve With Grilled Salmon
I’m going to highly recommend serving this delicious grilled salmon with my super easy Greek Salsa. Technically, this salsa is more of a chutney, because it’s not blended, but more of just a mixture of diced veggies, olives and feta cheese.
Here are a few more great sides to pair with it…
