COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – A recent University of South Carolina graduate is turning his passion for theatre into a mission to make the arts more inclusive for all.

Jackson McFadden is helping lead fundraising efforts for Rooster Tales, an inclusive theatre camp designed for students ages 10 to 14 on the autism spectrum. The program is a partnership between USC’s Department of Theatre and Dance and the Carolina Autism and Neurodevelopment Research Center.

Rooster Tales is uniquely designed to support young actors of all abilities — including students who are minimally speaking or have additional processing needs — creating a space where every child can express themselves through performance.

McFadden says the program is about more than just theatre.

The effort comes as part of USC’s Give 4 Garnet campaign, happening March 25–26. The university-wide event supports more than 200 causes, including student programs, scholarships, and research initiatives.

Organisers say this year’s campaign includes $250,000 in bonus and matching funds, allowing donations to go even further.

Alexis Watts, who works with USC’s giving initiatives, says programs like Rooster Tales highlight the impact of community support.

McFadden hopes the campaign will help grow Rooster Tales beyond a summer camp and into a year-round program, giving more families access to inclusive arts education.
