Whitney Leavitt has been open about the highs and lows of her weight loss journey.

After rising to fame as part of MomTok and Hulu‘s The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, she stepped into the ballroom to compete on season 34 of Dancing with the Stars. Between sharing silly videos with her pro dance partner Mark Ballas and sweet glimpses of motherhood, Leavitt has been open with her fans on TikTok, including discussing her weight loss.

During a March 2023 appearance on the Weekly Trash podcast, Leavitt — who welcomed three children with her husband between 2019 and 2024 — opened up about her health journey, explaining that she’s “always been happier” when she embraces her body.

“This is what I have. It’s a gift,” she said.

During her March 2023 appearance on Weekly Trash, Leavitt shared that she previously partnered with WeightWatchers and had gotten “really into” her weight loss journey.

“I was feeling great, doing great,” she said, adding that she “got really excited” until she felt like there was a “halt.”

Leavitt explained that she has hypothyroidism, which has made her retain weight. According to Cleveland Clinic, hypothyroidism is when the thyroid gland doesn’t make and release enough hormones into your bloodstream, causing the metabolism to slow down. This may make those who have the condition “gain weight unexpectedly or feel tired all the time,” per the medical center.

In January 2023, Leavitt revealed in a YouTube short video that the “secret sauce” to her recent weight loss was that she had begun taking semaglutide — a GLP-1 “used to treat type 2 diabetes” and otherwise known as Ozempic or Wegovy, per the Mayo Clinic.

She explained in the video that the drug was regulating her blood sugar. Leavitt wrote over the video that she had the “hardest time” losing weight after welcoming children, but had lost 10 lbs. in one month from the drug.

While discussing semaglutide on the Weekly Trash podcast, Leavitt got candid about her love-hate relationship with the drug.

“I’ve loved the weight loss, I’ve hated how I’ve felt on it,” she said. “You constantly have diarrhea … you’re nauseous, I feel like I’m easily irritable, but it’s probably also because it’s also suppressing my appetite.”

“I have a very binge eating personality that I hate so much, but I’m working on it. It’s getting better,” she said.

By June 2025, she told the It Girl podcast that she is having a “healthier relationship with food.”

“I’m just trying to think of the long haul. So, no Ozempi [sic] this time,” she said.

In June 2025, Leavitt appeared on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast and got candid about her new method to her weight loss: counting macros.

“After my second [child], I did Ozempic. But I’m not doing Ozempic this time … They don’t believe me, ‘I’m like, you guys I promise you, I’m counting macros this time,’ ” she said, adding that she “[loves] it.”

Leavitt explained that counting macros means tracking the amount of protein, carbohydrates and fats you consume. “It’s a lot, but I enjoy it,” she said.
