On January 12, California judge Colin Leis threw out Chris Brown‘s lawsuit over Chris Brown: A History of Violence, a 2024 documentary chronicling domestic violence and sexual abuse allegations against the R&B star.

The $500 million suit against Warner Bros Discovery and Ample Entertainment, the production house behind the show, was thrown out after the judge ruled that Investigation Discovery complied with journalistic standards in the documentary.

In his original suit, Brown claimed that the documentary was “full of lies and deception,” including, but not limited to, the show’s focus on a woman who was allegedly raped by Brown on a yacht owned by Sean Diddy combs in 2020.

The singer denied the accusation and argued that the woman in question had a violent past of her own, as well as several inconsistencies in her various statements.

“The court has personally viewed the entire documentary. The documentary recites most of the inconsistencies plaintiff notes, including the existence of the text messages,” writes the judge. “Media defendants thus presented a ‘fair and true’ report of statements and the judicial record and proceedings.”
