KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Police in Kalamazoo say they have found a missing 17-year-old with autism.

He was found safe in a nearby apartment building, the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety told News 8 around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Around 1:15 a.m., police responded to Wheaton Avenue near S. Westnedge Avenue for a runaway teenager. Officers began searching the area for the 17-year-old.

KDPS also asked for the community’s help in the search, saying that the teenager could have been in danger. Police previously said he had “limited cognitive function” and might have entered any accessible area to get warm.

“KDPS would like to extend our deepest appreciation for all those that assisted in this search,” the department said.

Editor’s note: The teenager’s name and photos have been removed from this story, since he has been found.
