“She didn’t deserve it,” said Felicity Kron, Izzy’s sister.

Her family affectionately called her Izzy. Police say 15-year-old Isabella Verbaere was stabbed to death by someone she called a friend.

“Just trying to wrap my head around the situation. Trying to understand … why?” Kron said.

LMPD says officers responded to a stabbing around 7 p.m. Saturday night at a home near Iroquois Park and found Isabella suffering from multiple stab wounds. Despite immediate medical care, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kaden Seviour, 18, is charged with her murder.

Her sister said they were all at work when her father called, delivering the news.

“And he had told us that she was stabbed to death,” Kron said.

According to an arrest warrant, a witness says that she heard the two in the bedroom and heard Isabella saying she wanted to be let out. She tried to open the door, and when she couldn’t, she went outside to open the bedroom window. That’s when she found Isabella on the ground. The suspect jumped out of the window.

Police found him in a parking lot.

“They weren’t in a relationship, but she just wanted to be friends with him. She told him multiple times, ‘Hey, I don’t want to be with you, but I do care for you. I want to be best friends with you.’ He didn’t want to take no for an answer,” Kron said.

The suspect’s family also spoke out.

A family friend speaking on behalf of Seviour’s family said he has severe autism and struggles to comprehend what happened.

“His mother asked him, ‘Do you understand what happened?’ He was like, ‘I hurt her, but I don’t think I hurt her. I probably did.’ She said, ‘Yeah, you hurt her. She’s dead, KK. He said, ‘What? She’s dead?’ And he didn’t even register that at that moment,” said Stephanie Johnson.

His family said he has been admitted to three different mental health facilities before, but didn’t get proper help. They believe the system failed both him and Isabella.

But they also acknowledge “the crime is the crime,” Johnson said.
