MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WKRC) – A man was taken into custody after he allegedly sexually assaulted a woman and then attempted to drown her in a hot tub.

According to WDTV, citing the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office, 40-year-old Jonathan Savin of Morgantown was arrested after he allegedly sexually assaulted a woman and tried to drown her in a hot tub.

The report states that the victim told law enforcement she had been at a friend’s house, decided to leave for a walk, and was eventually picked up by Savin. WBOY reported that she got into a “truck or large SUV” and was then taken to an unknown house.

She told investigators that she and Savin got into a hot tub, where the suspect allegedly began aggressively touching her, causing bruising to her arms, leg, and chest, WDTV reported.

The victim said Savin bit her, forced her head under the water in the hot tub, and choked her until she couldn’t breathe, the outlets reported. Savin and the victim then re-entered the residence, where she was forced to perform sexual acts because she was too afraid to refuse, per WDTV.

According to the reports, a sexual assault kit was collected, security video from Savin’s housing complex was reviewed, and a search warrant was executed — all of which corroborated the victim’s statements, WDTV reported.

The suspect spoke to law enforcement and reportedly “admitted he was involved in an encounter with the victim,” provided “inconsistent and unreasonable information,” and confirmed that “sexualized contact with the victim” did occur, WDTV reported, citing the criminal complaint.
