A 20-year-old man was arrested after a firearm and marijuana were found inside a vehicle on school property, prompting a brief lockdown at Pungo Christian Academy in Belhaven, authorities said.
According to the Belhaven Police Department, Lt. Battle and Sgt. Pruett responded Monday, Jan. 5, to a report of a suspicious vehicle on the campus. A cream-colored GMC Yukon with occupants who were not students was found on school property.
During the investigation, officers seized marijuana and a firearm from the vehicle. The driver, Quentin Brooks, 20, of Ocracoke, was arrested and charged with felony possession of a firearm on educational property and misdemeanor possession of marijuana.
Officials said the school was placed on a brief lockdown while officers secured the area. The scene was cleared safely, and authorities said there was no ongoing threat to the school or the public.
Brooks was taken to the Beaufort County Detention Center, where he is being held under a $3,000 secured bond.
