AIKEN COUNTY, Ga. (WKRC) – A man ran over his ex-girlfriend while she was on the phone with 911, then shot her in the head multiple times, hours after she initially called 911 to report domestic abuse.
Jamilla Shanae’ Smith, 30, called 911 on December 2, 2023 to report that her ex-boyfriend, 36-year-old Daniel Harmon had committed an act of domestic violence against her, although the act was not specified, per Law&Crime. Authorities did not clarify whether or not police responded to Smith’s concerns.
Hours later at around 8:30 p.m., Smith called 911 again and said that Harmon broke into her home and was chasing her down the street, according to a criminal complaint affidavit obtained by local outlet WJBF. The dispatcher speaking with Smith said they heard the sound of a car engine in the background before Smith screamed and Harmon started speaking to her.
Harmon reportedly told Smith to get into the car so he could take her to the emergency room, but she screamed at him not to hurt her or touch her. Smith accused Harmon of hitting her, but Harmon claimed she jumped in front of his car. Smith was heard screaming about Harmon touching her before the call dropped.
Authorities managed to track down Harmon three days later by connecting him to the car that was used to hit Smith, but could not find Smith or her remains. Upon checking Harmon’s vehicle, investigators reportedly discovered her blood in the trunk but no other signs of her.
Smith’s remains were discovered five months later in May 2024 in a wooded area. An autopsy revealed Smith had been killed from multiple gunshot wounds to the head.
Harmon pled guilty to murder and kidnapping on December 19, and was sentenced to 45 years in prison for murder and 30 years for kidnapping.
