Missing autistic teen found in Neuse River
KINSTON, N.C. (WITN) – Kinston police say the body of the missing autistic teenager has been found.
Just after 1:30 p.m. Sunday, divers from the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office located the body of 16-year-old Jaylen Green.
Green was last seen walking away from Neuseway Nature Park at 401 West Caswell Street Saturday night. Video footage shows him entering the water nearby, according to police.
As the multi-agency search continued overnight, they found points of interest within the Neuse River.

Kinston police say four sheriff’s offices, five fire departments, and several other agencies from across the east and state helped in the efforts.
“Our hearts are heavy with the loss of Jaylen Green,” Chief Keith Goyette shared. “On behalf of the entire department, I want to express our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. We are grateful to everyone who contributed to the search and ask the community to continue offering their support to the family during this incredibly difficult time.”
Mayor Don Hardy released a statement Sunday thanking community leaders, volunteers, and concerned citizens who stepped forward to support the search efforts and lift up the family and city.
“Though the outcome is heartbreaking, we take comfort in knowing that Jaylen has been brought home. Let us continue to wrap his family in love, stand with one another, and never lose sight of the strength we possess when we come together in service of others,” Hardy said.
Following the search, the Neuseway Nature Park announced on Facebook that they will remain closed until Tuesday.
“We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of Jaylen Green,” the park said. “Our deepest sympathies are with his family and loved ones.”
