Mother seeking justice for 6-year-old son who may not walk again after being shot in leg
PLYMOUTH, N.C. (WITN/Gray News) – A North Carolina mother is pleading for answers about who shot her young son last weekend while visiting family.
Jackie Grimes says her 6-year-old son Noah Campbell was visiting a family friend when the unimaginable happened.
“I was called to go to the hospital over in Pitt County and ended up finding out that he’d been shot … something no mother wants to hear,” Grimes said.
The mother said her son, who is always full of life, was shot in the leg while staying at a house on Anne Street and had to undergo an almost four-hour surgery since the shooting.
Now, she doesn’t know if he’ll ever walk again.
“It’s a struggle. He still has high hopes. He keeps saying, ‘I’m a big boy. I can do this.’ That’s the biggest thing, that he has hope,” Grimes said.
Grimes says she is continuing to look for answers as to who is responsible for what happened.
“I just hope that somebody pays for what they’ve done to him. Just own up to it. If you’ve done it, own it. That’s it,” she said.
According to the Plymouth Police Department, it expects to bring charges soon in the case as the shooting investigation continues.
