MONROE COUNTY, Ohio (WKRC) – A man in Ohio was arrested after he allegedly sent a bag of methamphetamine through a bank’s drive-thru pneumatic tube system.
It happened on December 3 at a bank in Woodsfield.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the bank after an unknown substance was sent through the drive-thru air tube. Upon recovering the baggie, deputies discovered that it contained a “crystal-like substance consistent with methamphetamine.”
As the investigation went on, deputies learned that the substance was unknowingly sent through by 46-year-old Jason G. Smith during a banking transaction. Smith was then located in Wayne Township by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
Deputies, along with K9 officer Max, responded to the scene and found additional suspected drugs and drug-related items in Smith’s vehicle.
He was then arrested and taken to the Monroe County Jail. The sheriff’s office then shared a public reminder.
“Illegal drugs don’t belong in bank drive-thrus—but they can be turned in at the sheriff’s office. No charges, no handcuffs, just help. We’d much rather safely take them off the street than see another unexpected “deposit.”
