GALION, Ohio (WKRC) – Skeletal remains found in a detached garage at an abandoned home have been identified as those of a 43-year-old Ohio man who disappeared in February 2023, authorities said.

Three young adults discovered the remains of Dustin R. Engler on Dec. 7, while exploring a property on Crestline Blooming Grove Road in Galion. They initially believed the bones were from an animal but called police after finding a skull. Sgt. Scott Davis said the garage was filled with trash and a couch without cushions. The remains were wrapped in a blanket and tarp, with additional bones scattered nearby.

Deputies secured the scene, but searches of the house and surrounding barns uncovered nothing suspicious.

The Richland County Sheriff’s Office, working with the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, confirmed Engler’s identity through dental records. Investigators are still determining the cause of death.
