The Arc of the South Shore is receiving a $6,606 grant from the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism to support its Caring for Caregivers program, according to a community announcement.
The grant, part of the Flutie Foundation’s Autism Community Impact Grant program, aims to support underserved and diverse communities. The money will enable The Arc to offer events such as coffee gatherings and caregiver retreats, providing opportunities for caregivers to find support and connect with one another, according to the announcement.
The Caring for Caregivers program also enhances The Arc’s Autism Resource Center, which offers referrals and community-based programming for individuals with autism and their families.
“Our deepest gratitude to The Flutie Foundation for providing grant funding for this important programming,” said Elizabeth Sandblom, CEO of The Arc, in a statement. “Their financial backing helps us create meaningful opportunities for caregivers to pause, connect, and feel truly supported.”
The Flutie Foundation, founded by former NFL quarterback Doug Flutie and his wife, Laurie, has distributed more than $20 million to schools and organizations supporting individuals with autism, according to the announcement.
“The Flutie Foundation Autism Community Impact Grant helps our partner agencies address a variety of significant needs in the autism community,” said Nick Savarese, executive director of The Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism, in a statement. “Programs like these help people on the autism spectrum live life to the fullest and we are proud to support their efforts.”
