A former Connecticut school bus driver is accused of sexually assaulting his 12-year-old stepdaughter, who was later found dead.

Anthony Federline is charged with sexual assault of a child and risk of an injury to a child, according to Connecticut court records.

NBC ConnecticutWTNH and WFSB reported that Federline was arrested in connection with an allegation that he sexually assaulted his stepdaughter, who was found dead on March 18, in her family’s home in Enfield, Conn.

WFSB reported that the girl was found on the floor of her bedroom and that pills were found nearby.

Per NBC, Federline was a bus driver for Enfield Public Schools but was fired after his arrest.

“Many have asked, Why was Mr. Federline allowed to continue transporting students in the days leading up to his arrest? Mr. Federline was removed from his position upon the district’s notification of arrest,” the school district said in a statement, per WTNH. “Prior to that time, the district was unaware that he was a person of interest.”

The outlet reported that Federline appeared in court on Monday, April 6.
