A burglary investigation late last week led Fort Fairfield police to arrest two local residents on multiple drug and firearm charges.

According to Fort Fairfield Police Chief Matthew E. Cummings, officers responded around 11 p.m. on Friday, December 26, 2025, to a reported burglary involving a local contractor’s service truck parked in a driveway on Elm Street. By the time officers arrived, the suspect had already fled the area.

Officer Isaac Wipperman deployed K9 Titan, who tracked a scent trail from the burglary scene to a residence on Columbia Avenue, a short distance away. Police obtained a search warrant for the home in an effort to recover items stolen from the vehicle.

While executing the warrant, officers discovered illegal drugs and a firearm inside the residence. A second search warrant was then obtained, leading to the discovery of additional controlled substances. Investigators ultimately seized evidence consistent with drug trafficking, including approximately 7.8 grams of fentanyl and a handgun.

As a result of the investigation, Timothy Philbrick, 33, of Fort Fairfield, was taken into custody and charged with Aggravated Trafficking of Schedule W Drugs (Class A), Unlawful Furnishing of Schedule W Drugs (Class C), Unlawful Possession of Schedule W Drugs (Class C), and Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person (Class C). Philbrick’s bail was set at $2,500 cash, and he was transported to the Aroostook County Jail.

Mariah McEwen, 23, also of Fort Fairfield, was arrested on the same charges. McEwen posted $500 cash bail and was released.

Police say additional charges related to the motor vehicle burglary are pending, and the investigation remains ongoing.
