Geneva, N.Y. — A member of the Geneva City Council is facing charges in connection to a multi-agency narcotics drug trafficking probe.

Ahmad Whitfield, 45, was arrested Wednesday after selling cocaine/fentanyl to another person, according to New York State Police. This came during an investigation in the Geneva area conducted by the NYSP Violent Gangs and Narcotics Enforcement Team, the Geneva Police Department, the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office and the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office.

Whitfield is charged with criminal sale of a controlled substance and two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, state police said. He was taken to Ontario County Jail for arraignment in CAP court.

The City of Geneva released a statement saying it would be “inappropriate for city officials to comment” on the case.

The City of Geneva is aware of the arrest of City Councilor Ahmad Whitfield earlier today. This matter is currently before the courts, and it would be inappropriate for City officials to comment on the details. Councilor Whitfield, like all individuals, is entitled to the presumption of innocence and due process under the law. The City of Geneva is not a party to this matter, and City government will continue to conduct its business professionally and without interruption.

“This is a serious situation, and it is important that we respect the legal process and the rights of all involved,” said Mayor James Cecere. “My responsibility, and the responsibility of this Council, is to ensure that the City continues to serve our residents with stability, transparency, and professionalism.”

Any future actions, if required, will be addressed in accordance with the City Charter and New York State law.
