Washington, D.C. – 2/10/26… Today, Congressman Mike Lawler (NY-17) introduced a resolution designating September 19, 2026, as Black Autism Acceptance and Awareness Day. The resolution highlights the persistent racial inequities in the diagnosis and treatment of Black autistic children, and advocates the importance of amplifying the voices of Black autistic individuals.
It also offers that true acceptance means culturally competent care, challenging existing biases, building community, and providing equitable access to resources and opportunities.
“Designating September 19th as Black Autism Acceptance and Awareness Day is about advocating for justice, promoting understanding and inclusion, and improving access to services so families can get the support they need. Every individual with Autism deserves to be recognized and supported,” said Congressman Lawler.
