An 18-year-old was arrested in Northeast El Paso on Dec. 20 after police said he was stopped for jaywalking and officers discovered he allegedly had drugs on him.

According to the El Paso Police Department, EPPD’s gang suppression unit was working on an operation at the 9700 block of Dyer St. when Nicholas Ray Fuentes was reportedly caught crossing a street without using the designated crosswalk.

Officers stopped Fuentes, who allegedly first ignored their orders.

During the incident, officers searched Fuentes and allegedly found a “smoking device” with drugs.

According to jail records, Fuentes was booked into the El Paso County Downtown Jail and charged with possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest, search or transport with bond set at $2,000.

Jail records show Fuentes was released from jail on Dec. 22.
