Substitute teacher arrested for slapping autistic student in the face at Harrison County school

CLARKSBURG, W.Va (WDTV) – A substitute teacher has been arrested for slapping an autistic student in the face at a Harrison County elementary school.

Patty Butler, 69, was serving as a substitute at Nutter Fort Elementary School on November 3rd when she slapped an autistic boy in the face, which left a red mark, according to the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office.

Butler was overheard telling the boy, “If you hit me, I’ll hit you,” before smacking him in the face, court documents say.

Butler has been charged with felony battery of a disabled child. She entered a not guilty plea and posted a 10/90 bond Thursday, which means she had to put 10% down in cash — $2,500 — and 90% was a PR bond.
