“She’s literally one of my heroes and what she poured into me literally had me crying,” Teyana Taylor said of Julia Roberts in an interview after the Globes
Teyana Taylor got emotional when she met Julia Roberts on the red carpet at the Golden Globe Awards.
Taylor, 35, and Roberts, 58, were seen laughing and smiling together as Roberts greeted the One Battle After Another star on the red carpet ahead of the Globes on Sunday, Jan. 11, and gave her a hug, as multiple videos taken at the event show. Taylor appeared to wipe tears from her eyes during the encounter, which she later relived in an interview with Entertainment Tonight after she won her first career Golden Globe.
“It was too much happening tonight. She parted the sea for me,” she told the outlet of encountering Roberts on the red carpet. “She told everybody to move out the way. Oh my God, it was scary. It looked so magical that when she came close to me, [I said,] ‘Don’t come another step, don’t come another step further. My eyes is getting watery.’ ”
“I could not believe that I was meeting her,” Taylor added of the encounter. “She’s literally one of my heroes and what she poured into me literally had me crying. . . She poured so much life into me. She poured so much life into me and I needed that. Oh my God, that was amazing.”
Taylor is currently experiencing a surge in popularity as she receives awards season recognition for her peformance as the character Perfidia Beverly Hills in One Battle After Another, which won the Globes’ award for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy on Jan. 11. Writer-director Paul Thomas Anderson also took home two trophies for his work as a director and screenwriter on top of Taylor’s win for her supporting performance.
“I’m still gagging right now,” Taylor said in the press room, when PEOPLE asked her why her win felt so personal. “I’m just like, oh, my God. I’m so happy. I’m filled with so much gratitude. I don’t take any of this for granted. I don’t take any of it at all.”

Roberts made her own kind of commotion at the Golden Globes when she received a standing ovation just for taking the stage to present the Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy award to One Battle After Another. The star was separately nominated for Best Actress in a Motion Picture for her role in After the Hunt, but the award ultimately went to Hamnet‘s Jessie Buckley.
Following Taylor’s big win at the Globes, she is next nominated at the 2026 Actor Awards on March 1 in the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role alongside Odessa A’zion (Marty Supreme), Ariana Grande (Wicked: For Good), Amy Madigan (Weapons) and Wunmi Mosaku (Sinners).
