GRIMES, Iowa (KCCI/CNN NEWSOURCE/WKRC) – A FedEx employee in Iowa gave birth unexpectedly at the end of her work shift after experiencing no signs of pregnancy, authorities said.
Amethyst Blumberg was at a FedEx facility in Grimes when she went into labor. She said she did not realize what was happening until the moment she delivered her son.
“I couldn’t even get off the toilet,” Blumberg said.
Emergency responders from the Johnston-Grimes Fire District assisted with the delivery. Blumberg gave birth to a healthy baby boy, Onyx King Easterlie, who weighed 6 pounds, 8 ounces.
“I was in utter shock,” Blumberg said, adding that she had not experienced typical pregnancy symptoms. “The only time I felt anything was when my back started hurting from back labor.”
Nick Pearson of the Johnston-Grimes Fire District said both mother and baby were healthy following the delivery.
“I’m just very happy that she was healthy, and the baby was healthy,” Pearson said.
